Long Pond, Pa. – Danny Sanchez pulled off one of the most improbable come backs in recent STRL history at Pocono. After spinning early in the race, Sanchez used pit strategy and timely passes to lay claim to the win. Sanchez started 25th out of the 26 car field and used pit strategy early to gain track position, but then ran into trouble on the exit of turn 1 as he and Steve Stiely got together. After pitting for repairs and fresh rubber Sanchez again used pit strategy to gain track position, but this time he was able to hang onto it. He slowly made his way up the standings until he was in second place behind Jeremy Weideman. After a late race restart Sanchez wasted no time in taking the lead. He made his move down the Long Pond straight as the leaders were coming to the white flag. Once clear of Weideman it was smooth sailing for the final lap as he was never challenged. Horace Brooks won the pole with a lap of 51.929 seconds but ran into trouble late in the race as pit strategy and a pit road speeding violation took away any hopes of the win. Following Sanchez across the finish line was Jeremy Weideman in second, Keith Mclain in third, Mike Hall in fourth, and Greg Foslien in fifth. The league goes to Watkins Glen next week for some road course racing action.
