Fontana, Ca. – Brian Mellendorf put his car in the right place at the right time to get a win at California. Starting from 19th place Mellendorf worked his way to the front and when the time was right he took the lead. Jeremy Weideman sat on the pole with a lap of 37.513 seconds and ran up front most of the night and finished in 2nd place. David Gibson finished in third to inch closer to the 12th spot in the points and last qualifying spot for the chase. Horace Brooks was his usual steady self and came home in 3rd. Mike Hall had a very fast car all race long and finished in 4th. Jeff Leung sarted in 2nd place and led the most laps during the race and ended up in 5th. But it was Mellendorf who put on a show running the high line all night long. The race had a late caution and went back green with 13 laps to go and Mellendorf in 2nd place. He got passed and moved back to 4th and that is when the high side kicked in for him. He quickly made his way back up to 2nd and with 3 laps to go took the lead for good using the hig line to get a run on Weideman in turn 2. As they came off of turn 2 Mellendorf dove low and made the pass stick going into turn 3. Weideman wasn’t done however and looked to have a run going into turn 3 on the last lap but the yellow flag came out again and Weideman would have to settle for 2nd. The league heads to Richmond next week and with 3 drivers battling for the last chase spot it is sure to be exciting.
